Reg Taylor's Tea Rooms sit tucked inside the well-loved Reg Taylor's Garden Centre on Normanton Road, making it a convenient spot to pause for a casual bite while wandering through the plants and seasonal displays nearby. The cafe draws a varied crowd—from garden centre visitors and families enjoying a stroll by the private lake, to locals dropping in for a mid-morning coffee alongside homemade baked treats.

Inside, the atmosphere feels relaxed but can get quite warm, especially on busier days. Seating is informal, with large windows that make the most of natural light, and while the space isn’t expansive, it complements the slower pace visitors often appreciate here.

The menu offers a balance between comforting classics and lighter options, leaning on freshly baked goods to anchor the experience. Popular picks revolve around their desserts—items like apple pie, berry cheesecake, and pecan pie clearly have a loyal following, matching well with a pot of tea or coffee. Savoury choices such as chicken salad & lamb provide a solid lunch option, while the availability of a vegan menu makes this a thoughtful stop for those seeking plant-based options, even if portions can feel modest in comparison to the price.

Reg Taylor’s Tea Rooms works well for anyone looking to combine their visit to the garden centre with a simple, homemade-feeling meal. Early afternoons on quieter weekdays often offer a calmer ambiance, making it suitable for lingering over a slice of cake or a hot drink after some retail browsing or a walk around the grounds. Families, couples, and older visitors tend to frequent the space, especially those who enjoy pairing a stroll in the fresh air with a relaxed, no-frills café experience.

Overall, this is a spot for casual, daytime refreshment rather than a destination for a full-fledged meal. The mix of fresh bakery items, light lunches, and the surrounding garden centre atmosphere gives it a distinctly local pace and purpose. Visitors are likely to leave content with a sweet treat and the chance to feed ducks and geese nearby, perfect for a laid-back afternoon out in Southwell.

They had a whole vegan menu. Although I thought the portion size was quite small for the price. Service was great but it was very warm inside! I got the lasagne

Apricot Pie and cinnamon apple cake are delicious. But the Sunday roast£16something for just these…it looks good but taste…. Still have a good time and the dessert is great, may come back again to try other dish

This isn’t just any garden centre. This is the Reg Taylor's Garden Centre. No wonder people travel so far to come here. It has just about everything. Wonderful goodies for your retail therapy, especially the fabulous Christmas decorations – there’s so much choice. But I digress. We were here for lunch in the quaint on-site Tea Room which serves a variety of dishes & refreshments. We opted for the following from the homemade specials board: Chicken tikka masala with rice Beef bourguignon with vegetables Strawberry milkshake Filter coffee Gooseberry & treacle crumble with proper custard Twix two-chocolate cheesecake with ice-cream The food was great, obviously made fresh with good ingredients, and served by very friendly staff who were helpful and happy to offer tips on food selection. It was busy, so reserving a table might be a good idea at peak times. Another gem at this location is the Swan & Waterfowl Sanctuary comprised of 6 lakes set in 9 acres of landscaped grounds. It’s on my to-do list for the next visit FINAL WORD: Top notch food in a relaxed tea room. I highly recommend a visit - - #gardencentre #tearoom #reviewer #lovemyjob #christmasshopping #happywednesday #shoplocal #shopindependent #supportlocal #christmasdecor #supportindependent #coffee #milkshake #puddings #foodstagram #eatery #cakeselection #autumn #swansanctuary #foodiegram #waterfowlsanctuary #walk #glutenfree #glutenfreedessert #finalword

Been here quite a few times for lunch with friends and never had a bad meal. I always have the lamb if it's on the menu, simply melts in the mouth, you also get plenty of vegetables too. Lovely place to have lunch and then look around garden centre and shop.
